PLYMOUTH — Chief Neil Foley would like to provide an update on the Plymouth Fire Department’s response and recovery efforts in the wake of Monday’s storm.
Yesterday, Dec. 18, the Plymouth Fire Department responded to more than 100 emergency calls for service, including electrical fires caused by downed wires, motor vehicle accidents, damaged homes, carbon monoxide emergencies caused by improper generator usage and medical emergencies.
Chief Foley reports that Plymouth’s Emergency Management Director has partially activated the Town’s Emergency Operations Center to coordinate restoration efforts with town officials and Eversource.
Eversource crews continue to make progress with power restoration and expect to substantially restore power to all affected customers by 11 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Plymouth Department of Public Works will be collecting storm debris beginning Wednesday, Dec. 20 through Saturday, Dec. 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., behind the Town Wastewater Treatment Plant, 131 Camelot Drive.
Post-storm Safety Tips
Chief Foley would like to provide the following safety tips for residents:
- Do not go near or drive over any downed power lines.
- Check your property for any trees that could be in danger of falling near your home or vehicles.
- Clear any debris from storm drains near your home to allow water to drain.
- Do not pump water from sump pumps into the road. The water can freeze and cause hazardous conditions if the temperature dips.
- Please check on your elderly and home-bound neighbors and see if they need help with anything
- Residents using generators should use extreme caution and allow for proper ventilation. Never use a generator indoors or inside a garage. Keep generators away from HVAC air intakes, windows and doors.
Residents are reminded that if damage occurred to a utility pole near or in front of your home, you may need to call Inspectional Services at Plymouth Town Hall before Eversource can restore your service. Contact Inspectional Services at 508-747-1620 x10117.
