Lieutenant Montanari was 48 years old and a 21-year veteran of the Plymouth Fire Department, before succumbing to smoke inhalation injuries while battling an arson fire at the Old Colony Railroad on August 25, 1979. David was remembered for his friendly, easy-going nature – even in the face of danger, and loved serving the town of Plymouth. Fire Station 2 in West Plymouth is dedicated to the memory of Lieutenant Montanari where he proudly served before his career was cut short.
