The Spooner Street station had been closed since November 2019. The new, state-of-the-art Hedge Road facility focuses on safety and preventative care of the firefighter, is equally accommodating for firefighters of all genders and is fully compliant with current ADA requirements.
The efficient design delivers 24/7 accommodations for the full-time staff and provides for effective environmental separations via negative air pressure systems to protect the staff from the elements associated with firefighting.
The facility also boasts a full decontamination room for firefighters to utilize after returning from an incident.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a formal grand opening ceremony will be held at a later date, with members of the town and residents invited to attend and tour the new facility.
